Specialist Programs

Visual Arts

The Visual Arts are practised and valued in our society as important outlets for the communication of ideas, feelings and beliefs. They also provide sources for intellectual, physical and emotional development and understanding and enjoyment. Comprehensive and sequential learning experiences in the Arts provide students with the necessary skills, understandings and confidence to participate fully in the Arts throughout their lives.

The Visual Arts program at Diamond Creek East Primary School provides students with the opportunity to plan, design and create works and images using a wide range of media. Students explore techniques and processes in the areas of painting, drawing, clay, threads and textiles, printmaking, paper craft and construction. Each of these areas explores the Elements of Art; line, tone, colour, shape, pattern and texture.

A working vocabulary is encouraged at all levels to thoroughly understand the many and varied processes and techniques. Each grade level is allocated a one hour session per week in the Art Room with a specialist teacher.

We offer our children the opportunity to participate in Inter-School and Intra-School Sport, House Athletics, Cross Country, District Athletics, Swimming, Kaboom Sports, JETS Gym, Swimming Program and Footy Day.

Music

Diamond Creek East provides a music program for students by involving them in singing, dancing, listening, playing instruments, composing and targeted music games. In addition, DCE runs an after-hours rock band (Smash Hits) which performs widely at festivals and other events. In addition, specialist guitar, keyboard, drum and vocal tuition is offered to our students.

Auslan

Diamond Creek East Primary School offers Auslan as the L.O.T.E. program for all students Foundation to Grade 6.

Students attend a weekly session with a specialist Auslan teacher to develop their skills in non-verbal communication.

Classes consist of hands on activities involving mime, finger spelling and general singing and students participate in performance and visual displays by visiting experts.

Developing the language of Auslan enhances student confidence in communication, opens up networks within our community and supports concepts explored within the general classroom. Our commitment is to develop language skills that will allow students to achieve their greatest possible potential.
